Kevin Porter Jr. hit a magical buzzer-beater for the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night that came just days after he walked out of Toyota Center following an altercation with a coach on the team that got him suspended for one game.
Right after Porter sunk the buzzer-beater that lifted the Rockets over the Washington Wizards, longtime Wizards broadcaster Glenn Consor made the worst comment about him that has LeBron James calling for his job.
Porter’s father, Bryan Kevin Porter Sr., spent 4 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the 1993 shooting death of a 14-year-old girl. In 2004, Porter was just 4-years-old when his father was shot multiple times and killed after trying to help a woman who was being attacked in a bar.
After an intense and heavy backlash online about his comments, Consor apologized to Porter Jr., saying he thought he was the son of former Washington player Kevin Porter.
“Please allow me to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to Kevin Porter Jr., his family and the Rockets organization for the comments I made during last night’s game,” Consor said. “I mistakenly thought that Kevin was the son of former Washington player Kevin Porter and was unaware that the words I choose to describe his game-winning shot would be in any way hurtful or insensitive. I have reached out to Kevin to personally apologize and hope to be able to talk with him soon.”
