Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young played his last game early on February 23 before having surgery on February 27 to repair a ruptured ligament in his left little finger. According to a recent post by Adrian Wojnarowski, NBA Insider of ESPN, on his social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter), Young has almost recovered from his injury and could possibly return to the game against the Charlotte Hornets.
“Atlanta Hawks All-Star guard Trae Young is nearing a return and could play as soon as tonight vs. the Charlotte Hornets. Young had been out since surgery to repair a torn ligament in a finger on February 25. The Hawks hold the final Eastern Play-In spot.” According to a recent post by Adrian Wojnarowski.
Before his injury, Young led the Hawks in scoring (19.3) and assists (10.8) per game across 51 starts. Despite his extended absence, he has the eighth-most assists this season (553 total) among NBA players.
Trae Young’s presence will be an excellent boost for the Hawks
Young’s comeback may help the Hawks reach up to the Eastern Conference’s No. 9 seed. The Hawks had a 12-11 record in the six weeks since Young’s injury, good enough to keep their Eastern Conference play-in spot despite a late push by the Brooklyn Nets.
Even without Young, the Hawks’ scoring potential has been severely reduced. With Young in 51 games this season, the club averaged 122.1 points; without him, that figure decreases to 112.2 points per game.
After Young was injured in February, the Hawks won 12 of their first 20 games. However, they are currently on a three-game losing streak and will be happy to regain their top scorer. Trae Young’s presence will be an excellent boost for the Hawks, although they are still in a disappointing position.
