The Los Angeles Lakers have had a challenging season, but it has been especially tough for their forward, Christian Wood. After missing the remainder of last season and the playoffs due to a knee issue, Wood’s struggles continued into the offseason. Back in March, he underwent a procedure on his left knee.
However, complications persisted, and Wood required another surgery. On Monday, he underwent a second arthroscopic procedure on his left knee. Fortunately, the surgery was successful, and the Lakers provided an update on his condition through insider Mike Trudell.
“Christian Wood underwent a successful arthroscopic surgical procedure on his left knee today. The procedure was performed by Dr. Kristofer J. Jones at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Wood will be reevaluated by team doctors in approximately eight weeks,” Trudell reported.
Christian Wood Likely To Miss Lakers’ Season Opener Against Minnesota Timberwolves
The Los Angeles Lakers will start their 2024-25 season on Oct. 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Unfortunately, it seems that forward Christian Wood won’t be available for the season opener.
After undergoing knee surgery in March, there was hope that Wood would be ready to start the season. However, a recent follow-up surgery has cast doubt on those expectations. It’s a tough blow for Wood, who has been eager to make a strong return.
Injuries have been a recurring obstacle throughout his career, preventing him from reaching his full potential. Notably, Wood has never played more than 68 games in a single season due to his unavailability.

Last season, he appeared in only 50 games before his injury. In those games, he averaged 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds over 50 games.
The Lakers will head into training camp on October 1. Wood’s recovery is expected to progress well. If his eight-week reevaluation goes smoothly, he could potentially rejoin the team a few weeks into the season.
