Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith gave Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown a boost for a sneaker contract and more notoriety. Smith thinks Brown may become a superstar if the Celtics beat Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic, and Kyrie Irving in this year’s NBA Finals.
Although Jaylen Brown has star potential and talents, Smith said on the Stephen A. Smith Show that he is not yet marketable. He highlighted that Brown still hasn’t landed a big shoe contract to drive home further his argument.
Smith said at 4:38, “You know how many people out there got sneaker deals? AD and LeBron got a sneaker deal. Luka and Kyrie got a sneaker deal. Giannis and Dame got a sneaker deal. Everywhere you turn, the sneaker deals. Jayson Tatum got sneaker deals,”
He added, “Where’s Jaylen Brown’s commercials? Where are his endorsement deals? Where’s his signature sneaker? Where’s his sneaker deal at? Why wouldn’t he have it?“
Smith pointed out that Brown ought to be drawing interest from businesses looking to hire him as a brand ambassador because he is one of the greatest players on the Celtics, who have the best regular-season record in the NBA and have only lost twice in the playoffs.
Smith thinks that if Brown wins against superstars Doncic and Irving in the championship round, things may change.
The Reason Behind Jaylen Brown Not Having a Sneaker Deal
Jaylen Brown stated he didn’t have a shoe deal because he wanted creative autonomy on the podcast “Point Forward” with Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner in November 2023.
He was angered by the fact that sportsmen are frequently “stuck on stationary deals” that give them little influence over marketing and originality.

Brown stated, “Athletes get kind of stuck on stationary deals. It’s like, here it is—cut and dry. No creative control, no control over your marketing, no input,”
He also lamented that manufacturers leave sportsmen behind once their shoe deals expire and that they receive poor treatment when they leave. Brown became a free agent after his initial footwear contract with Adidas ended.
