Following Monday night’s 18th NBA championship victory by the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum aimed at all his detractors. In Game 5, the Celtics thoroughly outplayed the Dallas Mavericks to secure their first championship since 2008. After numerous years of failure, Tatum almost had a triple-double to help Boston finally climb over the hump.
Tatum discussed how strange it felt to win his first ring and his feelings about it in a postgame interview with ESPN’s Lisa Salters. He also had a question for all of the internet trolls who have been criticizing him for failing to perform when the Celtics most needed him.
Jayson Tatum said (at 0:38): “First of all, God is the greatest. Not cause we won but he put me in a position to maximize my God-given abilities, to surround me with these guys, my family. This is an incredible feeling. … It’s been a long journey. We have a resilient group. We’ve been through a lot over the last couple of years, over my seven years (in Boston). What they gonna say now? What they gonna say now?!”
Even though the Boston Celtics were the most incredible team in the league throughout the regular season, there were plenty of skeptics before the NBA Finals. The injuries of the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Indiana Pacers gave the Celtics an easy path to the title.
Some critics noted that the Dallas Mavericks had the upper hand since the Celtics were not faced with hardship. But Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and the entire squad disproved everyone’s assumptions.
Jayson Tatum’s Near Triple-Double Sealed the Deal for the Celtics’ 18th Title
In Game 5, Jayson Tatum saved the best for last, finishing with 31 points, eight rebounds, and 11 assists. Even though it was his finest performance of the series, he did not earn MVP of the NBA Finals. Tatum probably doesn’t care about the recognition because the Boston Celtics won the title.

The Bill Russell MVP winner, Jaylen Brown, had a final line of 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Derrick White had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Jrue Holiday added 15 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.
The best basketball team ever put in a fantastic team effort as they won the title in front of their home fans. To make it even sweeter for the city of Boston, the Celtics have surpassed their rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, in terms of the most titles ever won.
