After playing 49 games for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, veteran Marcus Morris Sr. has reached an agreement with the New York Knicks. The 35-year-old power forward signed an Exhibit 9 contract with Tom Thibodeau’s side, granting him the chance to represent the Manhattan-based franchise.
Out of his 49 games last season, Marcus played 37 for the Sixers, starting seven games and averaging 6.7 points per game. In his 12 games for the Cavaliers, the 6-foot-8 forward scored 5.8 points per game. The veteran forward played for the Knicks in the 2019-20 season and averaged his career-high 19.6 points in 43 games.

While the Exhibit 9 contracts are short-term and low-risk options for the NBA teams, they include protection in case of player injury. In this contract, the franchise offers up to $50,000 if the player is injured during the training camp.
What Is The Deal Between Marcus Morris and The Knicks?
After playing 12 games without a start for the Cavaliers, the veteran forward helped the franchise advance to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. He started one of the nine playoff games he played for the Cavs, averaging 6.1 points and 2.8 rebounds.
On September 15, Marcus Morris signed a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract with the New York Knicks. In case of an injury during the training camp, the NBA veteran will receive $15,000 from the franchise.
Has Marcus Morris Sr. Signed An Exhibit 9 Contract Before?
In November 2023, Marcus joined the Philadelphie 76ers from the Los Angeles Clippers. However, his stint with the Sixers was cut short following his trade to the San Antonio Spurs, who waived him in February 2024.
Morris did not play a single game for the Spurs and joined the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 18. He signed a 10-day contract with the Cavs, and after getting into the rotation, he signed for the rest of the season with Cleveland.
The veteran forward will enter his 14th NBA season with a career average of 12 points and 4.4 rebounds on 43.5% field goal shooting. However, he has scored below his career average in the last two seasons. And time will tell whether the Knicks will offer him an entire contract.
