According to recent reports by NBA Insider Brian Windhorst for ESPN, the Golden State Warriors are interested in acquiring Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George. Windhorst mentioned that the 34-year-old Clippers guard is seeking a 4-year max contract, but the Clippers are only willing to offer George a contract similar to the one they gave to Kawhi Leonard. He also mentioned that if a deal between George and the Clippers is not reached, several other teams are interested in giving George the contract he desires, with the Warriors being one of them.
“To this point, the Clippers have only been willing to offer Paul George about what they gave Kawhi Leonard. Three years at a little bit less than the max contract, and Paul George, frankly, wants four years. He wants a full out max and there are a number of teams out there, I am told, that are prepared to give it to him, who are prepared to trade for him. One of those teams, potentially, is up the coast in Golden State.” On the latest episode of the show Get Up on ESPN, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said.
How Golden State Warriors Will Land Paul George?
Last season, Klay Thompson earned around $43 million with the Warriors. However, he is set to become a free agent, allowing the team to save this amount. The Warriors will need to adjust their finances to accommodate George’s salary on the roster. With Thompson leaving, the team will need an additional $5 million to sign George.
However, To sweeten the deal and make it financially viable for the Clippers, the Warriors may offer Jonathan Kuminga, who is projected to earn approximately $7.6 million in 2024-25, along with draft picks and another cost-effective player. To make the trade work, the Clippers could also send a player to the Warriors to balance out the salary difference.
According to StatMuse, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 74 games this season. He was selected to play in his ninth All-Star game.
