A blockbuster trade proposal has the Miami Butler sending superstar guard Jimmy Butler to an NBA heavyweight in a move that would make them the overwhelming championship favorites.
Earlier this week, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Miami is now “open to dealing” Jimmy Butler amid a roller-coaster start to the season (13-10). Butler is expected to opt out of his contract and become a free agent next year.
It’s believed that Butler would like to be traded to a contender, with Charania listing the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors as possible suitors.
Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports proposed a massive trade idea that has the Heat trading Jimmy Butler and Haywood Highsmith to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr., Dario Saric, Zeke Nnaji and a draft pick:
“Now this one’s juicy. The Nuggets need more shot creation. Why not send Michael Porter Jr. as a headlining piece in a trade for Butler? MPJ is one of the NBA’s best shooters, and he’s 6-foot-10. Spoelstra would know how to unleash the 26-year-old forward in ways he never has been with the Nuggets.”

The Nuggets have been a disappointment thus far, entering play with a mediocre 12-10 record. Nikola Jokic is still playing at an MVP level, while Porter Jr. (19.0 points per game) and Jamal Murray (17.8 points per game) continue to provide ample scoring behind the franchise star.
Two seasons removed from the franchise’s first NBA Championship, the Nuggets are built to win now and over the next five years. If they could somehow get their hands on Jimmy Butler, their odds of winning a second title with this core will have skyrocketed considerably.
Jimmy Butler Will Be Highly Sought-After On Trade Market
The 35-year-old Butler is still playing at an All-Star level and hasn’t displayed any signs of slowing down whatsoever. If Miami decides to trade the future Hall of Fame, there promises to be a significant list of playoff contenders interested in his services.
But there’s a case to be made that the Nuggets are the best fit for the ageing Butler. Jokic and Murray are in their primes, whereas other possible fits like the Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers have rapidly closing title windows.
