Kevin Durant’s playoff woes continued after the Timberwolves knocked out the Suns in the first round of the playoff series. Since leaving the Warriors in 2019, Kevin has not participated in the NBA Finals, and this season’s exodus has raised serious questions about his future with the Suns.
To address what the future holds, the Suns’ General Manager, James Jones, sat with the media. Talking about Durant, James said, “[The focus is to] figure out how to maximize Kevin Durant. No one’s done it yet. I believe we’ll be the first team to do it… When he’s playing at the highest level… we’re damn near unbeatable.”
Considering Jones’ statement, the Suns have failed to do so this season even with their Big 3 of Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker. While there have been whispers around the NBA circuit that Durant was unhappy with his role in the Suns’ offensive system, the 2-time NBA Finals MVP had a productive personal season. His 27.1 points per game enabled the Phoenix franchise to finish 6th in the Western Conference table with a 49-33 record, but their playoff bid fell flat against the Timberwolves.
While Durant is heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics in the summer, a big decision for both the Suns and the player awaits before the start of next season.
Kevin Durant Linked With Multiple NBA Powerhouses
The biggest question surrounding Kevin Durant is where he will end up next season. Florida with the Heat is one possible destination for the 2-time NBA Champion.
According to NBA insider, Sean Deveney, “There are a few teams that should come up, the Heat would be a favorite,” when he talked about potential landing zones for Durant. According to Monte Poole, The Warriors are another team to keep an eye on.

Poole highlighted that Durant will reunite with Stephen Curry and Steve Kerr during USA basketball duties in the summer and will have a lot of time to discuss a potential reunion. The Lakers were also a part of the conversation as ESPN’s Jayson Williams believes the 35-year-old should go to LA to join forces with LeBron James.
With all the rumor mills in full force, an exciting offseason awaits the neutrals as the Suns will hope to keep their shining jewel secured for the immediate future.
