With the summer upon us, the trade rumors are gathering steam. After a disappointing season, several franchises plan to rebuild their rosters, and the LA Lakers are among them.
Since the last trade window, speculation has surrounded their guard, Austin Reaves, and now there could be more possibilities. Although nothing is certain, the player has scratched out one name from his potential destination.
While enjoying playing golf on Wednesday, Reaves came across a fan who said, “We need you on the Pistons, Austin.” Without hesitation, the 26-year-old quickly clarified, “I’m not going to Detroit.”
Reaves cannot be blamed for it, as the Detroit Pistons have had one of the worst records since the 2020-2021 season, finishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table thrice. No player would willingly want to go there at a time like this, and Reaves was no different.
The video of his cheeky reply soon went viral on X (FKA Twitter), and fans gathered to comment amusingly on LakeShowYo’s post.
“LMAOOOO no one wants to play for the damn pistons … Reaves didn’t even play around about it,” wrote a fan.

Another felt Reaves would not be able to handle the pressure in the Pistons and commented, “Iil bro can’t handle Detroit.”
Amused by the response, one fan wrote, “Cooked the pistons im afraid.”
One of the comments read, “imagine going from living in LA to Detroit.”
Another X user stated, “that franchise is finished.”
This was not the first time the Oklahoma alum turned down the possibility of moving to the Pistons. He was also on the verge of wearing the Detroit colors at that time, but he refused.
Austin Reaves Continues to Say No to the Pistons
During the 2021 NBA Draft, the franchise prepared to select Reaves as their 42nd overall pick, but the young guard declined. The 6-foot-5 guard was determined to sign with the Lakers, so he stepped back and secured a two-way deal later.
In his third season with the LA side, Reaves averaged 15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while shooting 48.6% from the floor and 36.7% from 3-point range.
His dedication to the franchise and rising numbers could make him a valuable asset if Reaves stays with the Lakers.
