According to the most recent story from insider Sam Amick, Anthony Davis had a secondary role in the Lakers’ decision to fire Darvin Ham. Davis’s mounting dissatisfaction with Ham’s coaching caused LA to worry. The Lakers thought he might seek a trade if the team didn’t let go of Ham by the following season.
Amick mentioned that the Lakers’ thinking was influenced by the player’s past of requesting trades. Meanwhile, Davis was with New Orleans when they brought him here. Amick said following during his interview on The Rich Eisen Show:
“One of the many, many considerations was that it was pretty evident that AD was not on board with Darvin (Ham) and they (Lakers) know, like everybody else, that Anthony Davis has a history of having asked for trades in the past. Last thing they wanted was for AD to be frustrated with the situation and maybe have those type of thoughts cross his mind.”
Having inked a three-year, $186 million contract deal last offseason, Davis, 31, is at the height of his personal and professional powers. LeBron James will probably only be around for a few years at most. So, the Lakers’ top objective is to develop Anthony Davis. Davis has presumably succeeded James as the team’s captain following one of his greatest seasons wearing a Lakers uniform.
According to the NBA website, in a career-high 76 games played. Davis averaged 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.3 blocks, and a shooting percentage of 55.6%. He was a top-five talent and maybe the finest two-way player in the 2023–24 campaign.

Anthony Davis and Darvin Ham Have Previously Took Shots at Each Other During the Nuggets’ Playoff Series
LA had an inconsistent season, and the combination of Anthony Davis and Darvin Ham appeared fragile for most of the season. This is the first indication that Davis was not on board with Ham.
This came from his absence from the game during the fourth quarter. Darwin has outspokenly criticized the team’s defensive coverages and video evidence of his then-alleged dissatisfaction with Ham’s coaching.
Darvin Ham, a second-year head coach, defended himself and his staff. He claimed that they “pride themselves in being organized.” He also “agreed to disagree” with his star player’s remarks. However, he could have played down those remarks as many coaches would.
Three games later, the Lakers lost the series. That appeared to be the last straw for the two, resulting in Ham’s impending termination.
