The recent trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks, which sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Mavericks, has created a significant stir in the NBA. Players, analysts, and fans alike have shared their opinions on this blockbuster deal. However, Dennis Schroder of the Golden State Warriors took the discussion to another level with his thoughts on the NBA trade deadline.
The Warriors recently played the Orlando Magic in an intense game at Chase Center. Their impressive second and third-quarter performances propelled them to a 104-99 victory over the Magic. In an exclusive interview with NBC Sports Bay Area after the win, Schroder compared the NBA trade deadline to slavery.
“It’s like modern slavery. It’s modern slavery at the end of the day. Everybody can decide where you’re going, even if you have a contract. Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, ‘You’re not coming to work tomorrow, you’re going over there,’ they can decide that. They got to change that a little bit,” Schroder said.

Schroder has been traded multiple times throughout his professional career. His most recent trade occurred on December 15, 2024, when the Brooklyn Nets sent him, along with a 2025 second-round pick, to the Warriors in exchange for De’Anthony Melton, Reece Beekman, and three additional second-round picks.
Dennis Schroder Shares Thoughts On Luka Doncic Missing Out On $117 Million
The Doncic-Davis trade stands out as one of the most pivotal and surprising transactions in NBA history. This event is particularly significant as it represents the first occasion on which two reigning All-NBA players exchanged teams mid-season. Following the recent victory over the Warriors, Schroder took the opportunity to engage with the media, providing insights regarding this landmark deal.
“Luka Dončić just got traded and got five f–—g NBA First Teams, All-Stars. He brought money to them, NBA Finals last year, and $117 million he can’t sign now because he got traded, and that’s no state income tax. From now on, I see it even more crazier than it was, because to trade somebody like that, nobody’s safe,” Schroder said.

In a later part of the interview, Schroder analyzed the NBA trade dynamics, describing them fundamentally as business transactions. He also noted that even Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is not immune to the trade market.
