NBA insiders Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne have published a shocking report in which they spill the beans on the Warriors’ attempt to trade for LeBron James in the hours leading up to the trade deadline.
According to Woj and Shelburne, the Dubs were keen on pairing the Lakers superstar with rival Steph Curry and were eager to present a package to the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament winners.
However, it’s understood that neither James nor the Lakers were interested in exploring a trade.
Draymond Green, who was key in recruiting Kevin Durant to Golden State, is reported to have sent a message to agent Rich Paul to ask for help convincing James to join him. Paul represents both James and Green.
Green also encouraged Warriors owner Joe Lacob to make a move for the 30-year-old superstar, prompting him to contact Lakers owner Jeanie Buss to find out whether the four-time MVP’s public frustrations meant he was open to a trade.
Buss let Lacob know that the Lakers were unwilling to trade James but he could speak to the player’s agent to find out how James felt. Paul told Lacob his client had no interest in a trade and was fully committed to the Lakers.

Both teams were restricted at the deadline but the Lakers hope to add significant forces to their ranks in the offseason. The Warriors held trade talks over several players but ultimately made a money-saving deal to move Corey Joseph.
