The Toronto Raptors recently announced that they will retire Vince Carter’s No. 15 jersey on November 2. However, this decision has sparked some debate among fans and members of the organization. Some “high-ranking members” believe that Kyle Lowry should have been the first player honored with a jersey retirement.
Despite the controversy, the Raptors confirmed through a social media post that Carter’s No. 15 will indeed be the first number retired by the team. In response to his critics, Carter offered a thoughtful perspective.
“I know there are people with mixed feelings. That’s fine, and that’s fair, and that’s OK. But let’s enjoy the moment,” he said, as reported by Toronto-based reporter Josh Lewenberg.
The Raptors have already displayed Carter’s No. 15 jersey in various prominent locations throughout Toronto. The team also confirmed that his jersey will officially be lifted to the rafters at Scotiabank Arena during the Raptors’ game against the Sacramento Kings.
Kevin Garnett Praises Vince Carter’s Impact on Toronto Basketball
During a recent episode of KG Certified, NBA legend Kevin Garnett praised Vince Carter for his outstanding run with the Toronto Raptors. Garnett highlighted how Carter’s dominance on the court energized the city of Toronto, making it a vibrant basketball hub.
“When Vince got to Toronto, he made that a place, boy. He made it. I actually thought that the emergence of Drake, the emergence of the Weeknd, the emergence of Tory Lanez, the emergence of Nelly Furtado, Steve Nash. It put all that on the map,” Garnett said.
