Stephen Curry is in his 16th NBA season and has spent his whole career with the Golden State Warriors. As the star guard enters the twilight of his career, speculation about his retirement continues to grow. Curry himself hinted at this last year, admitting he feels closer to retirement than ever before.
During a special “NBA OGs Convo” on Christmas Day, Curry sat down with NBA legends LeBron James and Kevin Durant to discuss their legacies and thoughts on life after basketball. Curry shared that when he does retire, he doesn’t want to be the type of former player who criticizes the next generation.
“We’re not gonna be the bitter old heads that are coming back hating on the younger generation but definitely appreciation and admiration for what they’re able to do too,” Curry said.

Durant then chimed in on the conversation, offering his perspective on their shared legacy. “I look at this like we travel around the world; you see so many peaks and mountains and valleys, and it’s like we all have built up this own mountain, you know, in this basketball world, and it’s like it’s gonna be hard for anybody that like knock that down, you see what I’m saying? And you got these other,” Durant said.

As Stephen Curry nears the later stages of his legendary NBA career, he has found motivation in the example set by soccer icon Lionel Messi. Recently, Curry opened up about how Messi’s journey and achievements push him to stay driven and creative on the basketball court.
“Greatness inspires greatness in many ways. There’s nothing specific you can apply from football to basketball. It’s about longevity, creativity, and [Messi’s] impact on the sport worldwide. We appreciate greatness, of course; he inspires you to keep going and to keep doing things your way,” Curry said.
