Victor Wembanyama lit up the league in his rookie season and showed what a force of nature he could be in the coming years. His remarkable debut season with the Spurs earned him the Rookie Of The Year award for showing his unwavering will to improve, which he did throughout the campaign.
This competitive mentality is so intertwined with Wemby that he doesn’t even spare kids in a game of basketball, let alone pros. In a viral video, the French wonderkid is seen playing basketball against school kids and going crazy with his massive dunks. He didn’t even let the little ones score, as he showed off his blocking prowess to ward off every shot, regardless of its accuracy.
Wemby taught the kids about the harsh reality of sports and highlighted the excellence needed to become a pro by being ultra-competitive with them rather than letting them score easy buckets to fill them with a false sense of achievement. Any aspiring basketball player can take that lesson, as the Spurs C established a benchmark for the next generation.
Wembanyama was once in that position when he was a school kid who grew up dreaming about reaching the NBA spotlights. Now that he has made it into the big league, he can achieve his other life goals as well, for instance, buying stuff he wasn’t able to purchase before.
Victor Wembanyama Reveals Purchase From His First NBA Salary
While most players spend their first paycheck on lavish cars, houses, and jewelry, Victor Wembanyama did not take that route. His first purchase from his NBA paycheck was a Star Wars LEGO set worth $850.
The Millennium Falcon LEGO set is one of the most valuable collectibles from the Star Wars franchise and is the most expensive one of its type. Wembanyama proved that he’s still a kid at heart, and rather than having other distractions on the San Antonio nights, he chose something that keeps him down-to-earth.

This mentality enables him to put out the best performances on the court, as in his rookie season, Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points per game, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.6 blocks, which could’ve won him the DPOY award as well if the Spurs had a better record. He scored his season-high 40 points in a game against the Knicks in March and showed why he was the most sought-after rookie coming into the NBA.
While Wembanyama is only getting started, his behavior outside the court shows that he has the perfect attributes needed to be one of the best players in the NBA. With the 2024 Paris Olympics coming up, Wembanyama has some added recovery time which should be a cause of concern to the contenders as the 20-year-old will be focused on getting his first gold medal after finishing runners-up twice during his previous national team duties.
