Tyler Herro has been phenomenal for the Miami Heat in the current season. However, in a surprising revelation, the point guard also mentioned that it was not the Heat that guaranteed him a draft pick in the first place. In a recent interaction with Udonis Haslem on ‘The OGs’, Herro delved deep into his draft story.
Herro revealed that the Eastern Conference powerhouse Boston Celtics guaranteed to pick him in the 2019 NBA Draft. “When I seen like the number on the teams of where they were drafting and I see Miami was 13 like I was set on Miami months prior before the even draft,” said Herro.
“Celtics had the 14th pick. They had already like guaranteed me the pick for the most part and then Miami took me right before at 13, so it was a blessing,” he added.
Speaking with Haslem, Herro stated that he was a big fan of LeBron James before James switched to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thus, getting drafted by the Miami Heat was kind of a boon for the 24-year-old. Meanwhile, Herro enjoyed his time but found himself caught in the Jimmy Butler situation.
Tyler Herro Gives An Awkward Response To Jimmy Butler Situation
The situation with Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat has worsened over time. Initially, Butler has been publicly asking for a trade from the Heat. However, the revelation soon complicated things. Butler himself also riled up the rumors after his controversial comments on why he took only 6 FG attempts.
When asked about the same to Herro, things got awkward as the young gun did not want to comment on the same. “I’m not sure, I have no clue, I’m not the coach. We tried to get him involved, I thought,” Herro said. “I feel like the vibe is great…I’m about to enjoy my night.”
