The Miami Heat secured a thrilling 123-118 overtime victory against the Dallas Mavericks due to Jimmy Butler’s spectacular no-look layup in the closing moments of regulation. With just 1:03 remaining, Butler’s unconventional shot gave the Heat a crucial 112-111 lead and set the tone for their eventual win.
Butler’s remarkable play came as he drove to the basket but faced stiff defense from Mavericks Dereck Lively II. Butler then twisted his back to Lively and released the ball, desperately attempting to draw a foul. Instead, the shot miraculously found its mark, electrifying the crowd and giving Miami the momentum they needed to secure the victory.
While the play was a game-changer, Butler’s teammate Tyler Herro didn’t miss the chance to add some humor. Herro couldn’t resist poking fun at the highlight reel moment when asked about the shot after the game.
“That s*** was lucky as hell,” Herro said.

Jimmy Butler Praises Erik Spoelstra And Duncan Robinson After Heat’s Win
Following the Miami Heat’s thrilling overtime victory against the Dallas Mavericks, Jimmy Butler shared his thoughts on the key moments that helped his team secure the win. Butler reflected on his game-tying basket at the end of regulation and gave begrudging credit where it was due.
“I’m just glad that we took this to overtime. Spoe (Erik Spoelstra) is this hell of, you know, I just saw that he got voted the best coach in the association rightfully. So cuz he’d be locked in and he’d be studying and stuff like nobody I’ve ever seen, and he drew up something that was incredible. And I hate to say it, but Duncan made an incredible pass,” Butler said.
With the win, the Heat improved to 7-7 in the season. Their next game is on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
