When discussing the greatest basketball players of all time, only a few have reached the level of greatness for which they are known. Michael Jordan, who was recently praised by the Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, is among these stars. In his NBA career, he achieved several milestones, one of which was the creation of his documentary, “The Last Dance.” The film features many remarkable scenes, but a controversial part that included a vulgar comment about Jerry Krause made by Scottie Pippen was later removed by the NBA. Jason Hehir, the director of the movie, revealed this during a recent appearance on Pablo Torre Finds Out.
“The one thing that the NBA pushed back on in the entirety of this process was a clip where Scottie, in the locker room, they were joking around saying what they were going to do when they won the title. And Scottie, I’m paraphrasing here, basically said, ‘I’m going to stick a cattle prod up Jerry Krause’s butt and give that a guy a heart attack,’ or something like that.” Hehir said.
In the Deleted Scene, Pippen was joking around in the locker room about what they would do if they won the title when he abruptly joked about “hitting Krause’s b*tt.”.
NBA Believed Pippen’s Joke Overstepped Boundaries
Scottie Pippen played in the NBA for 17 seasons and won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls. He is considered one of the greatest small forwards of all time and played a crucial role in leading the Bulls to championships in the 1990s.
“I included that in our rough cuts because I wanted people to see what this guy was going through day in and day out. And that’s the one thing that they made me take out in three or four years of doing this. It wasn’t like Michael calling people a b**** or anything, it was that comment from Scottie to Jerry Krause, in deference to the Krause family.” Hehir added.
Hehir wondered if fans’ perceptions of Krause would change when they saw how poorly Jordan, Pippen, and the team treated him. However, the NBA officials felt that the seven-time NBA All-Star’s joke crossed the line in its treatment of Krause, a well-liked figure in the league.
