On Friday night, the Lakers got one of those rare victories that meant absolutely nothing as they had already been eliminated from playoff contention. During that meaningless win over the OKC Thunder, there was only one moment worth talking about and it had nothing to do with the game.
The wildest part of the night was LeBron James’ arrival later in the game where he could be seen walking in and kicking Kent Bazemore from his seat on the bench. On top of that, LeBron dapped up some teammates but left Bazemore hanging.
Before the season began, Kent Bazemore had reportedly turned down a deal with the Golden State Warriors for more money and years compared to the one-year veteran’s minimum that he signed with the Lakers.
That turned out to be a huge mistake. The Warriors will enter the postseason with homecourt advantage while the Lakers won’t even be making the postseason entirely.
Even worse is the fact that despite playing on a worse team, Bazemore’s role was severely limited. He’s played in just 39 games, averaging 3.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. All of his averages from this past regular season were all career lows since his first two years in the league.
Chasing a ring caused him to make a terrible decision for his career and his bank account.
