Thursday night’s main attraction was the 2024 NBA Draft’s second night. With all the reactions and footage coming out of ESPN’s Manhattan center, one video slipped under the radar. It features former Raptors forward Jalen McDaniels. Former because he just got traded to the Kings and he did not have a clue about it.
In a recently surfaced video on social media, McDaniels can be seen playing basketball in a gym. His trainer, Clint Parks, then broke the news to him that he had just been drafted to Sacramento. “Bro, you just got traded to the Kings,” Parks told McDaniels. “Me?” The 26-year-old replied in disbelief.
He repeated that once more to get accustomed to the news. His reaction made it clear that there probably wasn’t any communication from the Raptors about the trade, or he just probably didn’t check his email.
Jalen McDaniels Trade Details
With the second night of the draft commencing, some trades were bound to happen. Among the several other trades of the night, Jalen McDaniels’ one was noteworthy. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Kings sent Davion Mitchell, Sasha Vezenkov and the No. 45 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to the Raptors for Jalen McDaniels.
With their 45th pick, the Kings chose Houston guard Jamal Shead. Jalen McDaniels, on the other hand, is entering his 2nd year of a 2-year contract. McDaniels will make $4,741,800 next season and will be a free agent next summer if no extension is provided. After Malik Monk’s much-anticipated extension with the Kings, McDaniels’ move seems to be another step for the franchise to build a deep roster for next season.
