Kevin Garnett is widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history during his era. His rivalry with Tim Duncan during their playing days remains a hot topic among basketball fans. While Duncan led the San Antonio Spurs to five championships, Garnett secured just one title with the Boston Celtics.
Despite Duncan’s superior championship record, former NBA star Nick Young believes Garnett was better. During an appearance on the “Gils Arena Show,” Young was asked by Josiah Johnson if he thought Garnett was superior to Duncan. Young didn’t hesitate to voice his opinion.
“Yes. Tim was great, but I feel like just because you’ve got accomplishments and championships doesn’t always mean you’re better than that person to me,” Young said.
“I feel like his team was better than the Timberwolves. That’s why. But if you put KG on the same team, I think he’d have the same amount of rings,” he added.
Dwight Howard Joins Nick Young in the Kevin Garnett vs. Tim Duncan Debate
Nick Young’s recent claim that Kevin Garnett was better than Tim Duncan has found support from another former NBA star, Dwight Howard. The 38-year-old recently shared his thoughts on the NBA retirement and took to his X account to voice his agreement with Young, backing Garnett’s legacy over Duncan’s.
“KG has always been my favorite player, and I will say it was harder to compete against KG than Tim,” Howard wrote.

Surprisingly, Garnett also regards himself as having superior talent than Duncan. Back in July, the former Minnesota Timberwolves star claimed his legacy over Duncan during his appearance on Complex’s ‘I Got Time Today.’
“I didn’t play on probably better teams than Timmy played, but I thought I was a better player. Thought I did more, all around a better player, but shout to Timmy and his body of work and what he did too. Salute.”
The rivalry between Garnett and Duncan is well documented, as the two power forwards faced off 52 times throughout their careers. Duncan held a 33-19 winning record over Garnett in those encounters.
