After much speculation about his future, DeMar DeRozan has signed with the Sacramento Kings in a three-year, $74 million sign-and-trade deal. NBA Insider Shams Charania recently shed light on the details of the trade saga, revealing key insights about the teams involved.
According to Charania, the Los Angeles Lakers never made a formal offer for DeRozan, despite expressing some initial interest in the former Chicago star.
“It was really down to the Kings and Heat as far as DeMar DeRozan’s new home. I’m told the Lakers never went beyond expressing simple interest in DeRozan,” Charania reported.
Since the beginning of the free agency period, the Lakers have not added any players from other teams. LeBron James’ failed attempt to bring Klay Thompson to the Lakers fueled rumors about DeRozan. It turns out there was little substance to these rumors.
