The two best foreign players in the NBA, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, recently featured at Slovenian legend Goran Dragic’s farewell game. Doncic and Jokic’s appearance at the Night of the Dragon sparked a dialogue about the two stars possibly teaming up one day in the NBA.
Last week at the Night of the Dragon, a two-day event celebrating the former Suns guard’s basketball career, Jokic and Doncic shared some fun moments on the court. This led to the NBA insiders discussing the potential team-up between the Slovenian and the Serbian.
In a recent podcast of The Hoop Collective, ESPN’s Tim McMahon discussed the possibility of Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic teaming up in the future with Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps. McMahon said, “The Nuggets don’t have the assets to pull off a blockbuster trade. And the same thing goes the other way for Dallas… Maybe late in their career, or late in Joker’s career… I think, at this point, it is a silly, imagination-land discussion…”.
However, he didn’t completely let go of the hopes of seeing the two NBA stars playing together in one team. He added, “For many, many reasons, I would put the likelihood at extremely slim. Having said that, they are really good buddies. When the Nuggets come into town, Joker is over at Luka’s house having dinner. The opposite, vice versa, when the Mavs go to Denver.”
Dirk Nowitzki Excited With Possibility Of Doncic-Jokic Team-Up
During Goran Dragic’s farewell game in Slovenia, Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki, who helped the franchise win their only NBA championship in 2011, reflected on a possible team-up between the Mavericks guard and the Nuggets center.

While sharing his excitement, Nowitzki hoped they would play together in Dallas. Dirk said, “I hope that would be in Dallas. I’m not sure if that will ever happen, but obviously, both are two of the best players in the world. If not the best players in the world.”
However, Luka Doncic will look to win the championship this time around with the Mavericks after failing in the 2024 NBA Finals. On the other hand, Nikola Jokic is committed to Western Conference powerhouse Nuggets for the 2024-25 season.
