After taking home the gold medal from the Tokyo Games, Jayson Tatum is competing for Team USA in the current Olympics. The star player for the Boston Celtics just finished a fantastic NBA season in which he earned his first title and was instrumental in his team’s victory.
The discussion regarding whether or not Tatum is one of the league’s top five players reappeared when he was absent from the Olympic tournament opener against Serbia. The forward is among the league’s top players but has long been criticized. Jason Timpf, an NBA expert, argued against Tatum’s membership among the league’s elite.
Timpf said, “The point is, Jason Tatum, while I do believe he’s a top 10 player, has benefited from being on the most talented rosters in the league. This has led to incredible team results, which has led to incredible individual metrics, which has led to him getting a lot of voting support in the all-NBA voting.”
He added, “In my opinion, he is not one of the top five players in the NBA. He’s not a good enough offensive engine in the half court to be that.”
Jayson Tatum has improved with time and has established himself as one of the league’s best players. Tatum eventually overcame his setback after losing in the NBA Finals and Eastern Conference Finals the year before and winning the 2024 NBA championship. Still, the criticism doesn’t appear to be going away.
NFL Legend Chad Johnson Previously Claimed That Jayson Tatum Doesn’t Have An ‘Aura’
NFL icon Chad Johnson stated that Jayson Tatum might be the NBA’s face. The legendary Cincinnati Bengals player believes that other players—like Anthony Edward or Ja Morant—are better worthy of that distinction.

Johnson said, “Ja [Morant] and Ant [Edwards] could be the face of the league, but Jayson Tatum doesn’t have the cache and personality and the aura,”
With ten points in the game, Tatum’s ten rebounds tied Ismael Romero of Puerto Rico for the most in the category. However, Jayson Tatum seemed to be losing people’s faith in him again after calling out his detractors following the 2024 NBA Finals.
