Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban has taken a step back from his involvement with the NBA after selling the Mavericks for $3.5 billion last year. Recently, Cuban opened up about the key reasons behind the decision.
The Mavericks minority owner recently appeared on First Take with Stephen A. Smith and Shae Peppler Cornette. During the appearance, he shared his views on the competitive balance of today’s NBA, stating that it’s stronger than ever.
“I think competitively, it’s the best it’s ever been. I remember being in meetings and having small market teams just come and beg for revenue sharing and this and that. Now, everybody’s competitive, and there’s, you know, there’s gonna be teams that tank for a Cooper Flagg,” Cuban said.
“It used to be back in the day, like you have Dirk and bring in Jason Kidd, you can win 60 games. Now it’s hard for teams to win 60 games, and it’s not unusual if no one does. So I think the competitive balance is great,” he added.
Mark Cuban Discusses Klay Thompson’s Role With The Mavericks
During his appearance on First Take, Mark Cuban shared his thoughts on the team’s exciting offseason addition, Klay Thompson. Cuban spoke highly of how Thompson will fit into the Mavericks’ system, especially with stars like Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic on the court.
“He hasn’t had the benefit yet in the preseason of having Kyrie and Luka out there at the same time. But that takes all the pressure off of him, and either one of them can get the ball to Klay anywhere he wants,” Cuban said.
