On Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers concluded their five-game road trip with a loss against the Memphis Grizzlies. Without Anthony Davis, the Lakers had a disappointing run at the FedExForum and lost 131-114 to the Grizzlies. However, a back-and-forth between Lakers star LeBron James and Grizzlies guard Ja Morant lit up the contest.
The Lakers finished 1-4 on this trip to manage a 4-4 record in the 2024-25 NBA season. After winning their first three games, the Lakers lost four of their next five games. Lakers center Anthony Davis, who is leading the league in average points per game, missed the game after an injury against the Pistons in the previous game.
In the second quarter of the Grizzlies vs. Lakers showdown, Ja Morant hit the “too-small” gesture on Gabe Vincent, and LeBron James gave it back to Morant in the next play. The 25-year-old scored and drew a foul against Vincent with less than 1:30 remaining in the half-time. On the next play, LeBron dominated Morant physically to score a bucket and hit the “too-small.”
Ja Morant Responds To LeBron James’ Too-Small Gesture
LeBron’s bucket on Morant brought down the Grizzlies lead to five points with less than a minute remaining in the second quarter. A couple of plays later, Morant returned the favor after scoring the Grizzlies’ final points in the first half. The Grizzlies star was handed a technical foul for shoving the Lakers forward.
Despite LeBron James’ 39-point outburst on shooting 62.5% from the field, including 6-off-11 three-point shots, the Lakers lost by 17 points. The 39-year-old Lakers forward registered seven rebounds, six assists, and a steal against Memphis. The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Philadelphia 76ers in the next matchup on Friday.
