UConn head coach Dan Hurley has become a major subject of interest following his recent links to the Lakers’ vacant HC role. The NCAA championship-winning coach is seen as a frontrunner in the race which has been tipped in favor of JJ Redick for quite a while now. Amid all the speculation, Dan Hurley was seen at Maddison Square Garden attending Billy Joel’s concert.
In a video surfaced on social media, Hurley is seen having a blast at the concert with his wife and Luke Murray. The video was posted on the IG story of Murray.
Following the Lakers’ disappointing playoff exit, Darvin Ham was fired from the HC role despite leading the team to the WCF last season. Now, with a vacuum created for one of the most enticing coaching roles in the NBA, multiple top names are linked. JJ Redick, James Borrego, and Sam Cassell were some of the big names already interviewed for the role.
Despite the Lakers making the selection a prolonged one, Dan Hurley will not move to the Lakers, according to his fierce NCAA rival.
NCAA Rival Believes Dan Hurley Will Refuse Lakers Job
According to the buzz around the NBA, Dan Hurley is slated to receive a mega contract from the Lakers. But that will not be a deciding factor for the Huskies coach, believes Rick Pitino.
The two-time NCAA champion told the New York Post, “What I’m hearing — and I have no [inside information] — is that his father [Bob Hurley Sr.] and his wife [Andrea] are very strong in his life and they don’t want to go.”

He further added, “I think he’s going to try it, no different than [John] Calipari tried it or I tried it. I don’t think he’s going to take the job, but I think he’s going to try the pros some day.”
Resonating the legendary coach’s take on the Dan Hurley situation, analyst Nick Wright also believes that the Huskies will keep their HC. On a recent episode of “First Things First”, Wright said, “I would bet this ends with Dan Hurley getting a big additional raise from UConn, and JJ Redick being the head coach of the Lakers.”
With no sign of any official announcement, the expectation is that the selection process will continue for the time being.
