The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies by 131-114 in a recent game. Head coach JJ Redick benched D’Angelo Russell for most of the second half after he missed a crucial shot. Later, the head coach showed his anger on the bench, and a fan captured his reaction on video.
In the video, a frustrated Redick slammed a chair several times on the sidelines. The footage quickly went viral on the internet. To understand the reason behind Redick’s reaction, a reporter recently asked him about the incident during a post-game press conference
“Just level of compete, attention to detail, some of the things we’ve talked with him about for a couple of weeks. And at times, he’s been really good with that stuff and other times, it’s just reverting back to certain habits.” Redick said.
Redick stated that basketball is an emotional game for him and that it was the first time he had lost control. The head coach also noted that his reaction was not directed towards Russell and that it could happen again.
Russell Shares Thoughts On Being Taken Out Of The Starting Lineup By Redick
In the recent game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Redick did not include Russell in the team’s starting lineup. The Lakers secured a decisive victory, concluding the game with a score of 116-106. Following the game, Russell stated that he felt the outcome was what truly mattered. During the post-game press conference, the point guard shared his reflections on his absence from the starting roster.
“I just wanted to win,” Russell said. “So whatever it took, change of plans, whatever it is, whatever coach needs, try to get the win and be a part of that.”
