The Boston Celtics locked their seats in the Eastern Conference Finals after snatching the fourth win against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday at the TD Garden. Jayson Tatum dropped a massive performance for the Cs, who was seen having a wholesome moment with the Cavs guard Donovan Mitchell, who was absent from the squad.
Following the game win, the two players were spotted having an exchange while being surrounded by reporters and photographers. Despite their on-court rivalry, they showed mutual respect for each other and finished their conversation with a handshake.
Mitchell missed the Cavs’ last two games because of a calf strain which made the franchise struggle with the offense as it was led by the 27-year-old guard earlier. Mitchell was phenomenal throughout the playoff tournament, especially in the series against the Celtics where he was averaging 31.7 points in the three games played. Hence, his absence cost the Cleveland team a greater deal, proving to be a boost for the Boston side.
The team was keeping their scores close to that of Boston’s, but the 6-point deficit in the second quarter and 8 points in the fourth caused the damage, and they ended up losing by 98-113. Jayson Tatum played a crucial role in the game, however, his focus was not on his individual success, and he made that crystal clear after the dub.
Jayson Tatum Focused on Winning Championship Over MVP Award
The Boston Celtics have often been tagged with “Super Team” status, and they were expected of nothing less than bagging wins on their post-season journey. Bringing that up in the post-game interview, Warriors veteran Draymond Green, who took up the job of an analyst on TNT during the break, asked Jayson Tatum whether their consistent success had made the voters overlook his massive contribution, which made him lose the MVP award.
Making his intentions clear, the 5-time All-Star said, “We can worry about the individual awards later down my career, but this year just trying to get that championship.”

The Boston forward, who looked too charged up on Wednesday, put up 25 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals, missing the triple-double by a hair. He had a success rate of shooting at 56.3% from the field and 42.9% from the 3-point range.
The franchise looks very motivated to win its 18th championship trophy, and it has shown this throughout the season. With the semis wrapped up, the Celtics will wait for the series winner between the Knicks and the Pacers.
