After winning their opening three games this season, the Los Angeles Lakers managed a 4-4 record following their recent loss against the Memphis Grizzlies. The home side dominated the game due to a combined team effort, and former Los Angeles Lakers youngster Scotty Pippen Jr. stood out for the Grizzlies. His steal from LeBron James garnered praise from his teammates, leading Desmond Bane to mock the Lakers forward.
The 23-year-old guard took shots at the Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darwin Ham, who was the Lakers coach during Pippen Jr.’s time at the franchise. Memphis registered a vast 122-99 win against the Bucks last week, and the Grizzlies guard scored 16 points. In the game against the Lakers, Scotty Pippen Jr recorded 14 points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block in 26 minutes.
In the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s game, Pippen Jr. pulled off a sensational steal on LeBron James that raised the roof. He was asked about going against his former team in a post-game interview. “They didn’t believe in me, so I’m out here trying my best,” the Grizzlies guard said.
While praising his teammate for his sweet revenge against his former team, Desmond Bane can be heard taking shots at LeBron. “He snatched that ball from that old man (LeBron) over there,” he said.
Lakers Felt Anthony Davis’ Absence Despite LeBron James’ 39-Point Game
LeBron played like a lone warrior against the Grizzlies. The 39-year-old scored 39 points while shooting 62.5% from the field and making 6-off-11 three-point shots. Apart from him, the rest of the Lakers starters, including Austin Reaves, Jaxson Hayes, Dalton Knecht, and D’Angelo Russell, combined to score 42 points. LeBron and the Lakers felt the absence of the NBA’s average scoring leader this season, Anthony Davis.
The Lakers have lost four of their five games on their first road trip series and have fallen to the 10th spot in the Western Conference standings. JJ Redick’s side will host the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, and Memphis Grizzlies in their next three games and will look to return to the winning ways.
