Shaquille O’Neal was more than just a typical NBA big man throughout his NBA career. He was mainly known for his incredible size, strength, and surprisingly nimble footwork. But how would O’Neal fare in today’s modern NBA? According to former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, Shaq would be just as dominant, if not more so, than he was in his prime.
Arenas joined Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller on “The OG’s Show.” On the show, Arenas shared how Shaq’s sheer power would overwhelm the smaller, quicker players that dominate today’s game.
“If Shaq played today, what would he do? We’re going to throw the ball down to him; punish dudes that are 210. Can you average 60 & 34?” Arenas said.
Standing at 7.1 ft and weighing 325 pounds, Shaq was unlike any player the NBA had ever encountered. From the very beginning of his career, Shaq, who recently garnered attention with crazy car remodeling demands, showed his dominance in the league. He became the first player to win Rookie of the Week in his debut week.
Mike Miller Describes Shaq as the Most Dominant Big Man in NBA History
Gilbert Arenas isn’t the only one who believes in Shaq’s potential to dominate modern basketball. On “The OG’s Show,” former NBA star Mike Miller claimed the near-impossibility of stopping Shaq when he was at his best.
“Most dominant big man I’ve ever seen in my life, obviously. We had a defense for him, and there was nothing you could do. There was nothing you could do with that big fella,” Miller added.
