The Los Angeles Lakers have drafted LeBron James’s son, Bronny James, as the 55th pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft. After being drafted, Bronny also received a guaranteed offer from the Lakers. Since starting his professional career, the 19-year-old shooting guard has been in the spotlight. Many NBA players and analysts have shared their opinions on James’ selection.
Additionally, a former NBA player shared his thoughts on James when asked about his expectations for Bronny for the upcoming season. During a recent episode of the Gilbert Arenas show, the host, Gilbert Arenas, humorously stood up from his seat and started clapping when Brandon Jennings asked him, “What do you guys expect from Bronny [James]?”
“Go, Daddy, Go! As a second-round pick, what do you expect? Him to learn, understand, be cheerful, but he is going to be that anyway.” Arenas said.
Gilbert Arenas Brings the Heat: Bronny James Proving His Worth as a Second-Round Pick
Since joining the Lakers, Bronny James has stirred up a lot of NBA chatter among analysts and players. While some applaud his skills, others criticize him. One common criticism is that some fans believe he was only selected because he is LeBron James’ son, calling it ‘nepotism.’ However, players like Arenas have come to Bronny’s defense. Arenas mentioned that Bronny is performing well for a second-round pick and expressed frustration with the media for treating him as if he were the first overall pick in the draft, rather than the 55th.
“The expectations from a second-round pick are just ridiculous. They [the media] are using metrics that are not even real. It’s not real…They have him [Bronny] as the 55th pick… who signed a guaranteed contract. Why are nailing it down to that f**king number… There are four players in this year’s draft who signed one-year guarantees… But since he is a second-rounder and no one knows about him, there is no coverage of him.” Arenas said.
Bronny’s start to his professional career has not been going as well as fans had hoped. The Lakers have lost four straight games in the NBA Summer League. Bronny’s next match will be against the Boston Celtics on July 15. It will be fascinating to watch the 19-year-old guard’s performance.
