As he was criticizing the Lakers’ recent front-office actions, legendary player James Worthy of the Los Angeles Lakers was unaware he was being filmed. The commentator for Spectrum Sports likened the judgments made by the Boston Celtics to those made by the Lakers in recent seasons. Additionally, he seemed to make fun of Bronny James and referred to the trade selections made by the Lakers following LeBron James’ debut in 2018.
Beginning his analysis with a discussion of the Celtics, Worthy stated that Boston had taken a patient approach and had done everything well. He said the Lakers had made various choices regarding Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
In a video circulating on social media, Worthy is heard saying: “They got the right coaches in there, and so they did it right. They took their time. They waited when we were trading Ingram, Randle, trading everything. … Pope gone! Brother up in Sacramento, Malik (Monk), gone! We were trading, like, and then we wasn’t getting anything for it. (Russell) Westbrook, gone!”
In a different video, he seemed to disparage Bronny James. The Lakers are anticipated to select Bronny James with either their No. 17 or No. 55 pick in the next NBA draft.
The Lakers advanced to the 2023 Western Conference Finals, but the Denver Nuggets, the ultimate champions, humiliated them there. Apart from that, though, they have failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs. They have also not made it to the postseason in the remaining three seasons since 2020.
James Worthy Holds Nothing Back on the LeBron James Era
With three titles, LeBron James joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018. But his only ring in six seasons will hardly be remembered as a highlight of his otherwise remarkable career.

According to James Worthy, the Lakers have let go of several valuable players without receiving a good enough trade-off to support their older All-Stars in winning the postseason.
Worthy might be correct in his comparison for various reasons. However, even though the influence of LeBron James on judgment is only a supposition. This is particularly relevant in light of the Boston Celtics’ success since placing their trust in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, two of their young talents.
