There was a big hype in the free agency surrounding Paul George this offseason. While many franchises showed interest in the star, the Philadelphia 76ers were the fortunate ones to grab the opportunity. The franchise was in search of their final piece that could help them make a run for the championship title. With PG-13’s arrival, they believe that has been fulfilled. However, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst begs to differ.
Lashing out at such narratives during an episode of “First Take,” Windhorst said, “This is the fourth time in about seven years that Paul George has been a headliner of an offseason move… The previous three have led to what? And that’s my point. I’m not sure.”
The Insider further added, “I certainly recognize that the 76ers are a formidable team… But I’m just, I’m tired of sitting here the first week of July and declaring that a Paul George arrival changes the everything, because I believe that with the Clippers. I thought that team was set up to dominate.”
Windhorst expressed his frustration with the hype surrounding George’s new move. He questioned the 34-year-old’s previous stints with the Pacers, Thunder and Clippers where George failed to meet expectations. However, Windhorst might not be excited about the 9-time All-Star’s move, but his new teammate certainly is.
Tyrese Maxey Looking Forward to Paul George Link-Up
For more than a decade, Paul George has shown tremendous potential and established himself as one of the biggest players in the league. Having the veteran swingman on the roster would be a golden opportunity for the Sixers to form their Big 3 alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Following the confirmation of his move, Maxey showered George with heaps of praise on “The Takeoff Podcast.” The All-Star guard said, “He’s a guy that you can pick up and plug into any system because of his talent. He’s 6-foot-9, he can shoot the ball, rebound the ball, pass the ball well. Play on the ball, play off the ball, play off hand-offs, play in transition. The sky is the limit.”

The deal that his former team, Clippers couldn’t provide George, the Sixers did. It reportedly took the Philly side $212 million for four years to convince George to get on board.
