After being picked 11th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, Klay Thompson spent his whole 13-season NBA career with the Golden State Warriors. As the star guard is on the way to leave the legacy, his teammate Draymond Green could not resist being emotional.
On the latest episode of ‘Draymond Green Show,’ Green was wordless in conveying his sorrow over Thompson’s leaving Golden State.
“I don’t really know how I feel about it. Klay told us last week but all he told I don’t really know how I feel about it,” Green said.
Green understands the business side of the NBA, but for him, the off-court bond with Thompson is likely forever. The Warriors star also revealed that the 13-season and on-court chemistry forced him to cry after hearing the news.
“Congrats bro. I’m happy for you. That’s dope. You know, obviously, that changes nothing for us. You know changes in the basketball court, obviously. But the relationship they are, what they are, they are forever. I think I might have dropped a couple tears,” Green added.

On his podcast, Green shared how Thompson’s departure reminded him of his near-move to the Memphis Grizzlies.
“I called Klay, Steph, separate calls, and Steve, and I was just telling them, ‘yo, I’m leaving, I’m going to Memphis,’” Green recalled.
Unlike Green, who ultimately chose to stay with the Warriors, Thompson’s situation has taken a different turn. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thompson plans to sign with the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million contract as part of a multi-team deal. Despite LeBron James’ efforts to recruit him to the Los Angeles Lakers, Thompson appears set to start a new chapter in Dallas.
