Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors to start afresh with the Mavericks more than a week ago, but the impact of his departure remains. Many Warriors team members find it difficult to accept that the shooting guard left his 13-year Bay Area career. Now, it appears Draymond Green is feeling the same emotions.
Attending Summer League games to support his young teammates, Draymond gave an interview to ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth.
When asked about his emotions regarding Klay Thompson leaving, the power forward shared, “It’s a classic tale of, uh, suppressing your emotions right now. I haven’t really allowed myself to process it. I don’t want to.”
Like the rest of the Warriors, Green is also sad that Klay is leaving the team. However, he’s trying to stay positive by saying, “I feel like il face it when I have to face it. But nonetheless, I’m happy for Klay….I think he is going to have a really good year and he is going to show people he still got a lot left in the tank.”
Klay Thompson Embraces Fresh Start in Dallas Mavericks
Following their NBA Finals loss to the Boston Celtics this past season, the Dallas Mavericks were hell-bent on boosting their roster with Kyrie Irving and Luka Dončić. Despite the recent departures of Derrick Jones Jr. and Josh Green, the front administration has expanded the roster with fresh additions, including four-time champion Klay Thompson.
Despite his father’s displeasure, Klay has felt the warmth of the Dallas community since joining the team. This has only deepened his desire to join the organization. From franchise members to followers, Thompson already feels a strong sense of appreciation.

While describing all the love he is getting, the 34-year-old explained, “The organization showed me so much love, and the fans, whether on the internet or in the street, are very grateful. Everyone I’ve met, there’s just a great buzz around the city, especially coming off a championship appearance.”
He further claimed, “Everyone wants to get over that hump. That’s what was so attractive to me: to be someone who can help them win and help these young guys grow. Being in my thirties or at the back end of my career, it’s so special to have this opportunity.”
