Donte DiVincenzo’s offseason trade from the New York Knicks to the Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t sit well with him, and his frustration was clear during the two teams’ preseason game against each other on Sunday. DiVincenzo had joined the Knicks just last year in July, but after only one season, he found himself traded to Minnesota in a deal that brought Karl-Anthony Towns to New York.
This marked the third time DiVincenzo had ended a contract after just one season with a team, adding to his frustration. During the game, DiVincenzo didn’t hold back his feelings about the trade, directing a pointed comment toward Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau.
“Thanks for the trade, Thibs… That’s what happens when they let you run the show,” DiVincenzo said.
DiVincenzo’s emotions were clearly high as he faced off against his former team for the first time since the trade. His remark was caught on video, and DiVincenzo later addressed it with reporters.
“Obviously, they had me on video saying it. I’m not there anymore. I play competitive, I wear my heart on my sleeve, and that’s all it was,” he explained.
The game also saw DiVincenzo’s frustration come to a head when he got into a heated exchange with Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson. The two were seen jawing at each other, and tensions rose during the post-game handshakes.

Donte DiVincenzo’s Career Of Short Stints Continues With Wolves Loss To Knicks
The game ended on a frustrating note for DiVincenzo as the Wolves lost 115-110 to the Knicks. Despite the loss, he put in a solid effort, playing 27 minutes and contributing 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 7 assists against the Knicks.
Before his offseason trade, DiVincenzo had been a key player for the Knicks, appearing in 81 regular season games. During his time with New York, he averaged 15.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
Before joining the Knicks, DiVincenzo had short stints with the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings. The shooting guard joined the Kings in February 2022 and played with the Warriors during the 2022-23 season. His longest tenure was with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he spent four years. These frequent moves have marked his career with both opportunity and frustration.
