Draymond Green has taken his previous discussion with Shaquille O’Neal, about the 2017 Warriors beating the 2001 Lakers, a bit further in his recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” where his guest Derek Fisher had to give him a reality check.
The former Lakers guard joined Draymond to discuss the ongoing NBA Finals and different aspects of the league. The Warriors veteran felt it was the right time to bring up the hypothetical clash between their teams when they were at their peak eras. Draymond claimed it would take five games for the 2017 Warriors team to sweep the Kobe and Shaq-led Lakers (2001).
To this, Fisher replied, “In five I think is… I don’t know if you got the Lobos in there with you or what’s going on. But in five, I don’t know about that. Champs against champs, it should be a battle. And it depends on what rules are we playing. If I can foul Steph the way I play defense, we might have a chance because I’m beating him up. If I can hold and grab like we could in ’01 compared to now…” The 34-year-old was left amused by Fisher’s response.
Agreeing with Derek Fisher, Draymond said they couldn’t have beaten the Lakers with the old rules because of the size advantage. However, they would be the victors if the current NBA rules were followed.
Though Draymond sounds confident about defeating the late Kobe Bryant, he recently recalled when the legend left him embarrassed.

Draymond had come all prepared to guard Kobe Bryant. When the whole team was busy doing pregame drills, he watched Bryant’s videos to study his gameplay. The Warriors’ defensive mastermind stated, “I just watched it star-stuck. I missed everything else I was supposed to do in the back and then we had this moment and he leave me feeling like trash, it was unbelievable.”
During the game, Draymond tried to block Kobe on several occasions. But there was a moment when the 5-time champion attempted a shot that went over Draymond’s shoulder. However, the shot didn’t reach the target.
While the former DPOY believed he obstructed the bucket, Kobe clarified his doubt by stating that he had no role to play in the missed shot. The late legend couldn’t convert the bucket. That was classic Kobe Bryant, which left Draymond disheartened.
