VIDEO: Coach JJ Redick Denies Jaxson Hayes Scoring During Lakers Practice To Help The Guards Win
The Los Angeles Lakers kicked off the 2024-25 NBA campaign with a victory on the opening night for the first time since 2016. While Anthony Davis dominated both ends of the court, JJ Redick registered a win in his debut game as an NBA coach. During a recent practice session, Redick, who played for 15 seasons and six teams in his career, showed his defensive prowess as he stopped center Jaxson Hayes from scoring.
The Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103 on Tuesday. Anthony Davis scored 36 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and three blocks. Apart from that, Lakers legendary forward LeBron James also made history by sharing the court with his son, Bronny James.
During the game against the Wolves, Redick’s timeout huddle talk went viral on social media. The Lakers fans were pleased with the coaching change. The Lakers coach continued his impressive run as he showed his other side in a practice session. The Lakers were divided into guards and big men, and they had a one-on-one battle. Redick was guarding Jaxson Hayes and shut him down from scoring, leaving the entire Lakers stunned.
Former Teammates Jaxson Hayes And JJ Redick Adjusting To New Roles At The Lakers
After a disappointing first-round playoff exit against the Denver Nuggets last season, the Lakers parted ways with Darwin Ham. In the summer, the Purple and Gold appointed former NBA player turned analyst JJ Redick as their new coach. While Redick made his coaching debut with the Lakers, he already played with Jaxson Hayes.
During the last two seasons of his playing career, Redick played for the New Orleans Pelicans. Hayes, an eighth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, played his first four seasons at the Pelicans and joined the Lakers last year. Redick was a veteran during Hayes’ rookie season in the NBA.
