Most of the basketball community eagerly looked forward to the second night of the 2024 NBA Draft. The event’s main attraction was where LeBron James’ first-born Bronny James would end up. Following months of waiting, the young guard was selected by his father’s team, the LA Lakers, as the 55th pick. Not that people didn’t anticipate it, but after the official announcement both Bronny and his mother Savannah were left teary-eyed.
The historic night for the James family came on Thursday. As the Deputy Commissioner mentioned his name, Bronny felt a sense of relief from the constant worry about his future. He was clearly holding back his emotions. On the other hand, it was such a proud moment for Savannah to give him the Lakers’ hat. She almost had her tears rolling down but somehow managed. The moment was perfectly captured and the clip circulated on social media.
Bronny has faced a lot of criticism because of his below-average performance in the USC. Many even suggested that the Lakers shouldn’t draft him for the backlash he would receive there.
Anthony Davis Backs Bronny James Pick
After JJ Redick took charge of the Lakers, he made it clear that Anthony Davis would be the focal point of the team rather than LeBron. With the team in transition, AD is the leader of the team and Bronny James has his vote of confidence.
According to Dave McMenamin, Davis was impressed by Bronny James. “He’s very good defensively. He can read the floor very well. I think he’s a really good playmaker. I saw him work out a couple times besides the [Klutch Sports] pro day and working with a big — his reads, reading the defense, making the right passes — that was really impressive to me,” Davis told the ESPN reporter.

Now that Bronny is joining the Lakers, LeBron can finally look forward to completing his dream of playing with his son. With a new contract on the horizon, LeBron is set to prolong his career by 3 more years. So after Bronny, if he plays with Bryce as well, there shouldn’t be much surprise.
