The reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, suffered an unexpected defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers on Christmas Day, losing 118-114. Despite Jayson Tatum’s impressive performance, the Celtics couldn’t overcome the collective strength of the 76ers, led by Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey, who were back on the court together.
While the game ended on a sour note for Tatum, a touching moment between him and his son, Deuce, brought a silver lining. During the last timeout late in the game, as the Celtics trailed and faced immense pressure, Deuce approached his father on the bench and kissed him on the cheek. It indeed lifted Tatum’s spirits amid the tense atmosphere.

Tatum delivered a stellar game, recording 32 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block. However, his efforts weren’t enough to secure a victory as the Celtics struggled to keep up with the 76ers’ balanced attack in crucial moments. The loss dropped the Celtics to a 22-8 record for the season, while the 76ers celebrated a significant win on the holiday stage.
Jayson Tatum Delivers Some Positive Words Following Celtics’ Christmas Day Defeat
The Celtics approached their Christmas Day clash with the 76ers with great anticipation but came up short, falling to their opponents and raising concerns about their performance. Despite the disappointment, Jayson Tatum stayed optimistic, sharing an encouraging message after the loss.
“It’s still a long season. Nobody’s panicking. You just have to be able to navigate the emotional rollercoaster of an NBA season. It feels a lot worse than it actually is. We’re not panicking or anything. We gotta man up and look in the mirror and figure out some things that we gotta do better at,” Tatum said.
The Celtics will take on the Indiana Pacers on Friday in their next game. Whether the team capitalizes on Tatum’s confidence will remain to be seen.
