Despite all those running memes about his left-hand shooting, Jaylen Brown has always been a baller. If his ECF MVP award wasn’t enough of a proof, his NBA Finals MVP award indeed is. Jaylen Brown has all the lights on him now, just like he wanted, just like he envisioned in 2016.
Recently, the NBA’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle posted a video from 2016. In it, a 21-year-old Brown is seen soaking in the atmosphere of the NBA Finals between the Cavs and the Warriors. He also had a brief moment of pep talk with Andre Iguodala. “I want to get here so bad, I will be here,” said the then-Celtics rookie.
At 27, Jaylen Brown made good on that promise to himself all those years ago. He got to the NBA Finals and came out with the Larry O’Brien trophy, a historic 18th for the franchise that makes them the undisputed kings of the land. His NBA Finals MVP award was the cherry on top, and everything was made possible by the City of Boston.
Jaylen Brown Talks About His Evolution in Boston
When Jaylen Brown came to Boston in 2016 after the NBA Draft, hopes were high for the California guard. Now, he’s a vocal leader in the locker room and one of the best two-way guards in the league.
Reflecting on his journey to the NBA Finals starting from his rookie year, Brown thanked the city of Boston for shaping him for the moment. Before game 5 of the NBA Finals, Brown said, “It’s definitely a blessing to be here, to represent the Celtics, my family, the organization, the community. It’s an honor that I don’t take lightly… I’ve become a man here. Boston is special,” when asked about his relationship with the city.

“Just to come out every night and play for something, for what I represent, I think that matters. My relationship with Boston has grown. I’ve been here for almost nine years now,” added the NBA All-Star guard.
Jaylen Brown has averaged 20.4 points per game in the Finals. His 5.4 rebounds and five assists per game also helped the Cs cause in seeing out the Mavericks. With the wild celebrations in Boston, Jaylen Brown will get some respite after the team’s victory parade on Friday. While his teammates Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday will go to the Paris Olympics, Brown will have the much-needed break he deserves.
