Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George has recently faced criticism for his comments about the Los Angeles Clippers. Expressing his excitement about the new $2 billion Intuit Dome, George seems to have gotten into the firing line of the Clippers fans. George mentioned that when he spoke about his former team, the Clippers felt like a second fiddle to the LA Lakers.
George also mentioned how the love and support of the Los Angeles hoops community has shifted towards the Lakers. He stated that a lot of people had mixed reactions, giving him the notion of playing for a ‘B-team’. Now, this was a little too sensitive of a topic for the Clippers’ fans. Unable to take the insult, they immediately lashed out at the 76ers star.
Ravaged by the scathing comments, Paul George seemed to be a little concerned. As hatred against him grew, George recently came out and addressed the rumors. He even dismissed it by claiming that his statements were misinterpreted. George stated on a recent episode of Podcast P With Paul George, “What did I say that was wrong? I did not call (the) Clippers ‘the B team,’ I said it felt like the B team just because everywhere you go, people in LA say, ‘You should be a Laker. You should be a Laker,’… That wasn’t minimizing. That wasn’t downplaying. I was a Clipper. That’s who I chose to play for.”
Well, George might be trying to clean up the mess. But the fans are not forgetting his statements so easily. As a result, when George visited the Intuit Dome on Wednesday, the fans booed him constantly. To the point, George got frustrated and called them ‘stupid.’
Paul George Loses His Cool After Continuously Booed By Fans
Paul George had a forgettable outing in Los Angeles. Looking to dominate his previous team, George and 76ers instead, succumbed to a 110-98 defeat. However, this was not the main part of the story. Throughout the entirety of the game, George did not get respite for a bit. Taking offense to his ‘B-team’ comments, George was constantly being booed by the Clippers fans.

Not liking the welcome he got, George opened up to SI’s Joey Lynn. Calling the act ‘stupid’, the 76ers star said, “I mean, you know, it’s stupid… I mean, I was a free agent. It wasn’t something that I demanded a trade or went against the team here. Like, I was a free agent. The team presented something [contract] that was team-friendly, and I did what was best for me in that situation.” Thus, with the controversy picking up at a serious pace, it remains to be seen how George can pacify the Clippers’ fans in the long run.
