After being picked 16th overall in the 2024 NBA Drafts, Jared McCain is set to brush shoulders with Joel Embiid. But when it comes to being star-struck, the former MVP is not the one who’d make McCain feel that way.
During recently surfaced social media footage, Jared McCain answered that question. Just like many others, the Duke alum confessed to being starstruck by Stephen Curry. “Oh, Curry [Steph], for sure, I’m going to be way too hyped; hopefully I can focus during that game,” said McCain.
Born in California, the 20-year-old did not have to wait long to see Curry in action during his childhood. Curry’s mesmerizing handles and shooting prowess are enough to make anyone go gaga over him, and McCain certainly was one of them.
Not only does McCain look up to him, but he also learned from the 10-time NBA All-Star and recently shared his experience.
Jared McCain Reveals His Lesson From Stephen Curry
Last August, Curry hosted his 8th annual Curry camp in Menlo Park, California. The camp is specialized for basketball aspirants and is led by Curry to guide the participants through the hoops’ nitty-gritty. Jared McCain was one of the boys and girls who participated last year.
“I went to the Curry Camp,” McCain said about his experience. “I asked him, ‘how do you deal with going through a shooting slump? How do you deal with pressure in general?'”

“All he said was ‘trust is work’ and that’s been a good mantra for me to just live by and so at that point it kind of came back to me, and it’s just like I just got to keep working,” McCain added. Now he lives by those words and the effect of that is evident with his ACC All-Rookie team selection in 2024.
McCain was regarded as one of the best shooters of the recently concluded draft class and already disclosed that he is ready to face the challenges of the NBA. So, the Philly franchise would probably be fine with him.
