Victor Wembanyama is turning into a better player every day. The 7-foot-4 rookie has already turned heads with an amazing rookie season. The 20-year-old has already become a top 30 player in the NBA. His contributions are also appreciated more playing for a draft lottery team like the San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs had a hot start but their lead got cut by three with over nine minutes remaining. But, Wembanyama had other plans. He became the first player in NBA history to record 25+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists, 5+ blocks, and 5+ 3PM in a game. He recorded 28 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocks, 5 3 points made.
Wenbanyama gets a leg up against rival Chet Holmgren
He led the Spurs to a victory while directing one of the best two-way fourth quarters we’ve seen from any player this season.
As Chet Holmgren is Wembanyama’s main rival for Rookie of the Year, the victory feels even more noteworthy. Wembanyama’s play during his previous 25 games entering Thursday night (23 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and 3.5 blocks in less than 28 minutes per game) has made it evident that it’s his award to lose, even if the OKC big man held the early lead in the race, in part because of his team’s success.
Wembanyama came out as the clear victor in this game. Holmgren’s 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists couldn’t overcome the French giant’s effort
Furthermore demonstrating his versatility as a player is his performance in the fourth quarter against OKC. Even though the Spurs haven’t had many huge moments this season, he usually makes an appearance, which is encouraging for his future as the team’s focal point.
