Following a monstrous rookie season with the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama is gearing up for a level-up in the next season. While the San Antonio team suffered 60 losses compared to only 22 wins, the Frenchman shined brightly to bag the Rookie Of The Year award. With his growing list of admirers, Chris Paul has boarded the hype train, showing no sign of stopping.
On the “Pat McAfee Show,” CP3 shed light on the young crop of talents in the league. After mentioning the likes of Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, and Jayson Tatum and the media’s revolving narrative in their favor, the Warriors veteran passed the ultimate compliment to Victor Wembanyama.
“Wemby is different and he’s the guy you’re talking about after the game,” Paul told McAfee. “Wemby is the guy that, after the game in the locker room we all were talking about playing against him. We literally all had to change how we shot a little bit.”
Highlighting the adjustments they must make to shoot over Wembanyama’s 7’4″ frame, the 12-time NBA All-Star said he missed a shot while trying to evade Wemby’s close attention.
The Spurs rookie not only wowed the crowd with his performances but also led the league in blocks per game in the regular season with an impressive 3.6. As the franchise aims to build the team around Wembanyama, smart free agency picks can help them immensely turn themselves into a competent outfit next season. Given his uncertain future with the San Francisco side, Chris Paul might be an enticing prospect.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Lakers and the Spurs are the two notable names that keep popping up as potential destinations for CP3.
Paul is entering his final year of contract with the Warriors with $30 million guaranteed with a June 28 deadline. The veteran point guard has the option to hit free agency, and, for the Lakers, it won’t be an enticing prospect to pair up an aging Paul with LeBron James.
Rather, for Spurs, the move makes sense as it gives them an experienced ball handler in the backcourt who can improve the other youngsters around him, one of them being Wemby. Paul in his recent stints with the OKC, the Suns helped the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Devin Booker, and the same can be done with Wembanyama.
Whether the two will be in the same colors next season is unclear at the moment, but with the Spurs having two first-round picks, including Chris Paul, via trade or free agency, it looks like the go-to move for them to build a winning team around Victor Wembanyama.
