Houston Rockets fans may be bummed that they did not get Victor Wembanyama, but the feeling was clearly not mutual.
Texas was home to two of the three clubs with the best odds to land Victor Wembanyama in the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery. Both the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets (together with the Detroit Pistons) had a 14% chance of obtaining the No. 1 overall choice and the right to draft the Frenchman, who is regarded as one of the best prospects in NBA history.
There is only one of those Texas teams that Victor wanted to go to.
Ultimately, San Antonio got the No. 1 pick, but the video showed his reaction to learning he would not end up as a member of the Rockets.
It seemingly shows Wembanyama celebrating that he’s not going to Houston.
The clip caught the eye of Jabari Smith Jr., who made a note of how Wembanyama reacted to this.

It should be noted that Victor may not have anything personal against the Rockets, it’s just he has a close relationship with Spurs great Tony Parker and said in the aftermath of the Draft Lottery that he believed all of France wanted him to end up in San Antonio, due to the ties that team has with a number of great French hoopers.
However, it is not a good look for him to celebrate as he did.
The Rockets’ rebuild has been really rough without James Harden. The team has a number of talented players such as Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr., and Jabari Smith Jr., but it’s not quite enough to put wins on the board.
Wembanyama, barring an unexpected development, will be landing with the Spurs. It’s a match made in heaven.
