Kobe Bryant’s genius on the basketball court is still touching the world.
On Saturday, it was officially announced that he was a 1st ballot hall of famer, but it became bitter sweet knowing that he is no longer here and we won’t get a speech from him.
Soon after the announcement, his wife, Vanessa Bryant, chimed in during an interview and although she fought back tears while still dealing with his loss, she still commented on her late-husband’s accomplishment.
“It’s an incredible accomplishment and honor, and we’re extremely proud of him,” Vanessa said on ESPN. “Obviously, we wish that he was here with us to celebrate, but it’s definitely the peak of his NBA career. Every accomplishment that he had as an athlete was a stepping stone to be here. We’re incredibly proud of him. There’s some solace in knowing that he was probably going to be a part of the 2020 Hall of Fame class.”

The announcement that Bryant would be inducted into the Hall of Fame came a little more than two months after he, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others died in a tragic helicopter crash.
The 13th overall pick out of Lower Merion High School in the 1996 NBA Draft averaged 25 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game over his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
