The visiting Philadelphia 76ers defeated the San Antonio Spurs 133-126 on Sunday thanks to a career-high 52 points from Tyrese Maxey, as well as clutch baskets from Ricky Council IV and KJ Martin in the second overtime period.
In addition to his career-high 52 points, Tyrese Maxey had a stellar all-around game that included five rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. As per Statmuse, Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 26 points while making 12 of his 22 field goals with efficiency.
With 11 points, three assists, and four steals in the second half, Ricky Council IV had an outstanding performance. Load management kept Joel Embiid and Kyle Lowry out of the game, and Tobias Harris sidelined his third straight game with a bruise in his left knee.
The Sixers overcame the Miami Heat to claim the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference with this victory. They are still one game behind the Indiana Pacers for the sixth seed, though.
Tyrese Maxey’s Career-High Saved Spurs Despite Losing Early Lead
From the beginning of the second quarter, San Antonio was down by as many as 14 points.
But over more than four minutes, they put together an incredible 20-2 run, and with 3:26 left before halftime, Victor Wembanyama’s running 3-pointer gave them a 56-49 advantage.
The Spurs led by as many as 13 points at one point, but Hield’s game-winning 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left cut San Antonio’s lead to 64-54 at the half. The Spurs led by ten points at the half and by seven points at the end of the third quarter. But Maxey’s two 3-pointers and two free throws made it so the Sixers were down 108-106.

The teams traded leads throughout the first extra period until Martin’s shot with 24.4 seconds left tied the score. With 3:04 remaining in the second overtime, Council made a crucial 3-point shot that knotted the score at 126-126. Not long later, at 1:56, Council made two clutch free throws to give the 76ers a two-point advantage.
